(Phnom Penh) – Investors in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. are calling on the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia to intervene in a serious case involving Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman and a Japanese national, who is accused of breaching the trust of shareholders and misappropriating company funds.
According to the complaints, Yamada allegedly exploited his position to manipulate real estate purchase prices in Cambodia, resulting in an estimated USD 4 million being diverted for personal gain. He is also accused of bypassing other shareholders’ authority and creating fictitious transactions, including loans exceeding USD 7 million, using the names of well-known Japanese companies to mislead investors. Reports suggest some of the funds were transferred abroad to an account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The allegations extend further, claiming Yamada established multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, appointing nominees to act as company representatives while he maintained full control over all financial transactions. Investigations indicate these activities may involve embezzlement, forgery, and potential money laundering.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada and his associates, freezing several assets and bank accounts. Additional cases are reportedly under investigation. Authorities in countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States are also looking into related financial misconduct.
Through their letters to the Ministry of Justice, the investors urged Cambodian courts to conduct thorough and transparent investigations, safeguard the rights of victims, and ensure the accused faces appropriate legal consequences. They also expressed concern about potential interference from influential figures that could hinder justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
The investors emphasized the importance of accountability and a fair legal process, calling for decisive action to prevent the accused and his collaborators from evading responsibility.
